My approach

Coming from training in Classical Yoga, the relaxation or ‘shavasana’ part of my class always holds an important place at the end of my classes.  This is where the body can integrate any of the subtle shifts that have occurred in the physical and energetic body. It provides an opportunity for the body to experience deep rest where physiological responses such as the heart rate slowing, the parasympathetic nervous system kicking in and the brain waves move to a more relaxed state. This pose is an antidote to the stresses of modern living and is an essential part of managing a busy life.

Every class starts with a breathing exercise (pranayama) and helps you to ‘draw a line in the sand’ and let your day and what the future holds, fall away. Yoga is about the breath and the yoga poses are a way to access a meditative state.

The Yoga Sutras, the first written text on yoga, says yoga is ‘Citta vritti nirodha’ – yoga is about slowing down the thoughts in the mind, not about twisting yourself into a pretzel! I believe yoga should be mindful, body-felt, accessible, all people should feel welcome and an attitude of doing what feels right in your own body is continually reinforced.

Each class, I like to feel that everyone has had the chance to gently challenge themselves and find some new space or release.

I like students to feel that after each class they have ‘reset’, feel calmer, learnt a little something new (about their body or mind) and the learnings from yoga have further developed their awareness and understanding of how they choose to live in the world. Yoga helps us to develop love in our heart so that we may go and take that out to the world.

‘If we are not in our body, we are not in our life. Breath is the key that takes you there.’

CLIENT EXPERIENCE

“Thanks Charlotte, I just love your classes. I've been out of action with some injuries and your zoom classes (Breathe & Relax) have been just what I needed to get going. I don't even want to go back to a more strenuous yoga.”

What to bring

Online Virtual Sessions.jpg

In person Sessions

☾ Yoga Mat

☾ Blanket

☾ Any Props you like to use (block, belt, eye pillow, bolster)

An eyepillow is a great way to support your relaxation. If you don’t already own one, you can buy one here.

Online Virtual Sessions

The same as above.

Try and create a space which can be quiet, let your family members know that you are having time out. Light a candle, choose a flower, or bring something beautiful into your practice space. I like to light incense, my favourite is Nag Champra as it is very gentle, and not floral.

Online classes are recorded and sent to you for use again in that same week.

“Charlotte’s classes have such a beautiful synergy and balance between movement, meditation and healing through sound. Charlotte’s philosophy of being in the space of a ‘beginners mind’ is a lovely reminder to be with where our body is at today and to explore the abilities of the body with reverence and love. I would thoroughly recommend that you immerse yourself in this yoga experience with Charlotte!”
